Chicago lifts bridges to allow for springtime boat traffic

CHICAGO (AP) - It's a sign of spring in Chicago.

The city will begin lifting bridges along the Chicago River on Saturday morning to allow recreational boat traffic to move from winter storage to harbors across Lake Michigan.

In a Friday news release, the Chicago Department of Transportation says it'll begin moving bridges along the Chicago River, from the Ashland Avenue to Lake Shore Drive.

The bridges are lifted sequentially and will affect street traffic during the morning.

Each bridge lift takes from 8 to 12 minutes. A total of 27 bridges will be lifted during the day.
