'Mollie's War' author to discuss women in World War II

Harper College today is welcoming award-winning author Cyndee Schaffer for a discussion about her book, "Mollie's War: The Letters of a World War II WAC in Europe."

The free event will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today in Building D, Room D195 on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

"Mollie's War" traces the footsteps of Schaffer's mother and other WACs stationed in London before and after D-Day, when V-1 rockets rained overhead.

After D-Day, it was on to Paris and finally to Frankfurt with the Army of Occupation. Using excerpts from Mollie's letters, Schaffer provides a romantic yet frightening glimpse into the life of a woman in uniform during wartime.

The event is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. To register, visit harpercollege.edu/ce or call (847) 925-6300.
