Police: Wisconsin residents had $15,000 worth of heroin

Two Wisconsin residents have been charged with transporting an estimated $15,000 worth of heroin through Kane County.

Nathaniel Simmons, 32, of the 3300 block of Leopold Way, Fitchburg, and Taffinesha T. Strickland, 26, of the 0-99 block of West Klubertanz Drive, Sun Prairie, were arrested Sunday after a traffic stop, according to Kane County court records.

Simmons and Strickland both are charged with manufacture/delivery of 100 to 400 grams of heroin, armed violence, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Strickland, who was wanted on a Kane County warrant, also faces a count of misdemeanor obstructing identification after police said she initially provided a false name.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Jason Bradley wrote in an email Simmons was driving west on Interstate 90 near Hampshire at 1:28 p.m. and was pulled over for following too closely.

In addition to the 101 grams of heroin seized, authorities found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the car.

If convicted of the most severe charge, each faces six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation.

Simmons and Strickland were each being held at the Kane County jail on $300,000 bail. Prosecutors filed a court motion requiring each defendant to prove bond money comes from legitimate, legal sources, records show.

Strickland and Simmons are next due in court Wednesday and April 21, respectively.

Taffinesha T. Strickland was being held on $300,000 bail.
