McHenry County to host programs, speakers for Community Development Week

The Community Development Division of the McHenry County Department of Planning and Development has released the schedule of activities planned for Community Development Week, April 17-21.

Guest speakers will kick off the event at 5:30 p.m., immediately before the county board meeting on Tuesday, April 18, in conference room a at the administration building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

Debbie DeGraw, vice president of marketing, PR and development, will present her experience with Home of the Sparrow utilizing the HOME Investment Partnerships Program for acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable housing.

Sue Rose, director of community outreach for the McHenry County Housing Authority, will present "Confronting Homelessness: The Old Firehouse Assistance Center" about support from the Community Development Block Grant, on behalf of the McHenry County Housing Authority.

Community development staff will answer questions regarding how the county utilizes population-based federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Community Development Division recently announced the Notice of Funding Availability for 2018 grants to serve McHenry County residents.

You can learn more by attending the public meeting of the Community Development and Housing Grant Commission at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the community room of the Dorr Township offices, 1039 Lake Ave., Woodstock.

Property developments and infrastructure projects throughout the county will be showcased all week long, with the Village of Union ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the corner of Washington and Main streets. Trotter and Associates, Starks and Sons and community development staff will contribute to the event.

From 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 20, Full Circle Communities will host the first of two open house events, inviting the community to their recently opened Creekview Apartments, a senior affordable housing development at 5615 Liberty St. in Richmond. It is funded in part with McHenry County Community Development Block Grant funding.

Featured guests include Lindsey Haines, vice president of development, and Corina Pitsenbarger, vice president of property management for Full Circle Communities.

At 3 p.m., Family Alliance will open its doors to guests to discuss how they utilized Community Development Block Grant funding to enhance safety for seniors.

At 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, the Senior Services Grant Commission will hold a public meeting in conference room B of the Government Administration Building, 667 Ware Road in Woodstock.
