Girls soccer: Moore helps Antioch power past Waukegan
Rachel Moore kept up her torrid scoring, netting a hat trick to lead Antioch's girls soccer team to a 4-0 shutout of Waukegan on Wednesday.
Moore's 3 goals gave her eight in the Sequoits' first eight matches. Morgan Keefer also scored for Antioch (5-2-1), while Megan Helgesen had 3 assists.
Antioch goalie Monica Wilhelm (1 save) notched for third shutout.
Lake Zurich 3, Glenbrook North 2 (PKs): At Lake Zurich, the host Bears prevailed in penalty kicks, 4-2, to win their own tournament game.
Rebecca Kubin and Samantha Hartman scored in regulation for Lake Zurich (5-2). Kyra Ripoli and Kristin Brousseau had assists. In PKs, the Bears got goals from Kubin, Ripoli, Brousseau and Tara Frank. Lake Zurich keeper Madison Hart made 2 saves in PKs and 8 overall.
Vernon Hills 7, Round Lake 0: The host Cougars picked up their third shutout of the season in the nonconference match to improve to 3-2-1.
Piper Bidell and Lexi Harte each scored twice. Katie Burrows, Abby Kempf and Ziggy Jezorski also had goals. Burrows and Kempf added 2 assists each. France Ferolo and Emma Pappano had assists as well, and Cassie Pappano earned the shutout with 1 save.
New Trier 3, Stevenson 0: At New Trier, the Patriots dropped the North Shore invite match, despite 9 saves from keeper Hannah Petrich.
New Trier, which scored twice on dead balls, led 2-0 at halftime.
"We must get better on dead balls," Stevenson coach Kevin Heffernan said. "New Trier in one of the best teams in the state. We had trouble with the speed of play. We're young and will keep improving. This was the closest score in five years vs. New Trier."
Stevenson plays Naperville North at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at New Trier.
