Softball: Adams tosses shutout for Mundelein
Breanna Adams struck out nine in a complete-game effort, and Mundelein's softball team shut out host Waukegan 5-0 in North Suburban Conference action Wednesday.
Adams allowed only 2 singles and didn't walk a batter. Jordyn West homered for the Mustangs (4-7, 3-0). Kaitlyn Griffin was 2-for-3 with a double, and Molly Podraza also doubled.
Libertyville 16, Lake Forest 3: Kenzie Rother was 5-for-5 with a triple and 3 RBI, and winning pitcher Hannah Heraty had a perfect game through four innings in North Suburban action.
She pitched 5 shutout innings, allowing only 1 hit and no walks while striking out 10, as Libertyville improved to 9-2 and 3-0 in the NSC. Lauren Heraty finished up in the circle.
Hannah Heraty finished 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly. Lyndsey Lyon was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, and Maggie Evers finished 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.
Carmel 9, Lakes 2: The visiting Corsairs earned the nonconference win, as winning pitcher Sydney Schuda (3 RBI) and Karina Falkstrom (2 RBI) both went 3-for-4.
Jordan Swiatkowski was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for Carmel (9-4).
Zion-Benton 15, Stevenson 12: The Patriots' bats stayed hot, but the hosts still lost the North Suburban game.
Alyssa Pauly was 4-for-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI for Stevenson, which got 3-hit games from Mic Faunce (3 runs), Alana Labaschin (3 runs, 3 RBI) and Anna Fossier. Gina Shanley went 2-for-5 with 4 RBI.
Wauconda 7, Woodstock 2: Mallory Carver went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI, and the Bulldogs won the nonconference game.
Sarah Ricci was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Wauconda. Winning pitcher Kayla Serio went the distance, striking out eight and walking three. She did not allow an earned run and gave up only 5 hits.
Wauconda sweeps North Chicago: On Tuesday, the Bulldogs won 15-0 and 10-0 in Northern Lake County action.
Kayla Serio, Maddie Ryan and Angleica Cho combined to throw a four-inning no-hitter in the first game. Sydney Williams went 3-for-3, and the Bulldogs got 2 RBI apiece from Taylor Lambert, Alex Steffens, Alyssa McCarthy and Serio.
In the second game, Lambert was 1-for-1 with a double. Winning pitcher Kelly Weller, Ryan and Williams each drove in 2 runs.
