Naperville woman dies after crash with squad car

A 73-year-old Naperville woman has died of injuries from a crash Saturday evening with a Naperville police officer driving a marked squad car, authorities said Tuesday.

The woman, Phyllis Davis, died at Edward Hospital. The officer, a 26-year veteran of the force who authorities have not named, was treated at the hospital and released.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Team, police said.

Police said the woman was driving a Hyundai Elantra about 6:10 p.m. April 8 at the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Feldott Lane when the collision with the squad car took place.

The officer is expected to return to normal duty once he is medically cleared, Cmdr. Lou Cammiso of the Naperville Police Department said. The department otherwise is not commenting on the crash while the county's investigation is ongoing, he said.

The accident reconstruction team and DuPage County sheriff's Sgt. Bob Harris did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
