Carpentersville man, woman killed in McHenry Township crash

A Carpentersville man and woman were killed Sunday when their motorcycle was hit by a minivan in an unincorporated area near McHenry Township, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation determined a 41-year-old Wonder Lake woman was driving a Chrysler Town & Country van north on River Road about 7:53 p.m., according to the McHenry County sheriff's office. She failed to yield as she was turning left onto Charles J. Miller Road, officials said, and her van collided with the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was heading south on River Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 49-year-old Carpentersville man, was taken to Centegra Hospital-McHenry. The passenger, a 42-year-old Carpentersville woman, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Both motorcyclists, whose names are being withheld pending family notification, were pronounced dead at the hospitals. Officials say it appears neither were wearing helmets.

The intersection was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash, police said.

The sheriff's office's Major Crash Investigation Unit, as well as the McHenry and Lake county coroners' offices, are investigating.
