Beach Park man faces domestic battery charges

A Beach Park man faces multiple domestic battery charges after Lake County deputies said Monday that he injured someone within his home over the weekend.

Lake County Sheriff's Deputies were called at about 7 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 37600 block of North Lake Crest Street for a reported domestic battery, Lake County officials said in a news release.

Deputies met with the victim outside the home and attempted to speak with Silvestre J. Martinez, 24, who was inside. Martinez refused to exit the home and threatened to shoot anybody who came inside, police said. Deputies spoke with Martinez for more than an hour before deciding to leave the scene due to safety concerns.

Deputies obtained a warrant for his arrest on Monday and later in the day took him into custody. He initially refused to exit his home, but surrendered after speaking with negotiators for two hours.

Martinez was charged with two counts of domestic battery, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of battery.

He was taken to Lake County jail and is expected in court Tuesday morning.
