Baseball: Barrington gets win No. 10

Starter Nick Gardner and reliever Will Yorton combined on a 3-hit shutout as Barrington's baseball team reached the double-digit mark in victories with a 10-0, 5-inning nonconference win over visiting Highland Park on Saturday.

Gardner worked 4 innings and allowed 3 hits with 5 strikeouts. Yorton pitched 1 perfect inning.

Tyler Trojan, Clark Elliott, Blake Gosswein, Sean Davis and Justin Walker each had 2 hits for Barrington (10-3), which won its fifth straight. Gosswein doubled and drove in 2 runs, and Elliott doubled and drove in 3.

Buffalo Grove 7, Notre Dame 0: John Lundgren tossed a complete game 3-hitter to lift the Bison to their second win of the weekend in New Trier's invitational.

Lundgren fanned eight and allowed 2 walks.

"John Lundgren pitched a great game vs a very good ball club," said Buffalo Grove coach Tim Miller. "He dominated their lineup."

Mike Gran had 2 hits for the Bison (6-0-1), while Zach Fricke drove in 2 runs and Riley Rundquist had a double.

St. Viator 10, Mishicot 0 (6 inn.): Jack Heneghan tossed a 6-inning 2-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk as St. Viator (6-4) rolled to a nonconference win and stretched its win streak to three. Heneghan threw 47 of his 70 pitches for strikes.

There was plenty of power in the Lions' lineup and Casey Pulikowski led the way, finishing with a homer and 3 RBI. Bryce Hellgeth had 3 hits, Cole Kmet had 2 hits (including a double), Jack Mahoney tripled and had 2 hits and Brad McCollough tripled.

St. Viator 10, Wrightstown 0 (5 inn.): Sean McAteer allowed 3 hits and struck out six as the Lions made quick work of nonconference foe Wrightstown.

St. Viator made good use of hits 4 hits. Cole Kmet had a double, and the Lions drew 8 walks. Joe Sarnello, Hunter Johnson, Casey Kmet and Cole Kmet each stole 2 bases.

Maine West 10, Schaumburg 8: The Warriors scored twice in the seventh inning to win a nonconference matchup in Schaumburg.

Jacob Cabral went 3-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBI to lead a 10-hit attack for Maine West. Nick Stone had 2 hits, including a double, a drove in 2 runs, while Jeff Mustari tripled and walked twice.

Matt Johnston earned the win by tossing 2 innings of scoreless relief for the Warriors (3-5).

Vinnie Kandefer, Tommy Larsen, Jack Lancaster and Ryan Sakamoto each had 2 hits for the Saxons (5-5), who committed 4 errors. Larsen (triple) and Danny Galovich (double) both drove in 2 runs.

Palatine 8, Antioch 1: Junior Evan Daly went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in 3 runs to help the visiting Pirates pick up a nonconference victory.

Daly, J.T. Streepy and Brent Penrose each doubled for Palatine, which drew 8 walks.

Winning pitcher John Weber (5⅓ IP, 2 hits) and Jason Rivera (1⅔, 0 hits) were both solid on the mound for the Pirates (4-6).

Niles North 5, Rolling Meadows 0: Joe Marcucci and Javonte Jones-Warner had the only 2 hits as the visiting Mustangs (1-7) dropped a nonconference contest on the road.

Simeon 7, Hersey 3: The visitors plated 4 runs in the sixth inning to earn a come-from-behind win.

Only 1 of the runs allowed by Hersey's three pitchers was earned.

The Huskies (3-4-1) had 5 hits, all singles, with 1 each for Tyler Haffey, Alberto Garcia, Christian Rodriguez, Tom Barnes and Ryan Trachsel.

Lane Tech 5, Elk Grove 0: Ryan Uehara (double) and Jakub Sokol (triple) had extra-base hits, but the Grens (4-4) were limited to a total of 3 hits in a nonconference road loss.

Brett Wicklund threw a complete game with 7 strikeouts for Lane.

Prospect 10, Maine South 3: Ryan Howe doubled, finishing 2-for-4 with 4 RBI to lead the way as the host Knights (3-5) won for the second straight day in nonconference action.

One of Ryan Roggeman's 2 hits was a double; he finished with 3 RBI. Richie Baszek also doubled; he and John Morgan both had 2 hits.

John Czseslowski allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 5 innings for Prospect, and Ryan Howe tossed 2 innings of 2-hit relief.

Conant 10, Glenbard South 8: The visiting Cougars saved their best for last, scoring all of their runs over the final 3 innings in nonconference action.

The last of four pitchers for Conant, Joe Pavletich, earned the win by tossing 2 scoreless innings.

Tyler Hedmen and Logan Smith both had 2 hits at the top of the order for the Cougars, and Smith, Sam Ryan and Tim Fauth each drove in 2 runs.

The big inning for Conant (3-6) was the sixth, when it scored 6 runs.

Leyden 13, Proviso West 1 (5 inn.): The host Eagles erupted for 8 runs in the first inning in picking up a West Suburban divisional crossover win on the road.

Brian Szpoinski went 3-for-3 with a double and Matt Ozanic was 2-for-4 with a double for Leyden (3-1), which used 1-inning stints from five pitchers in the decision.
