Softball: Fremd edges Warren 11-10

Anne Marie O'Sullivan, a golfer in the fall, showed she can hit some clutch shots with the softball bat as well.

The senior first baseman singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Fremd an 11-10 nonconference win over visiting Warren and keep the Vikings' record perfect at 4-0 under first-year coach Josh Teschner.

O'Sullivan's hit capped a 4-run rally by Fremd which trailed 10-7 going into its last at bat.

Junior Nikki Kehoe earned the win, throwing the final three innings. She struck out four and did not walk a batter while starter Jess Mazur struck out three in the first four innings.

Anna Freveletti (2-for-4, 3 RBI, home run, 2 runs), Kehoe (2-for-3, 2 runs, RBI), Regan Schneider (2-for-5, RBI, 1 run) and Becca Uhrich (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 1 run) each collected multiple hits for Fremd. Mazur also had a double.

Palatine wins twice: Palatine (5-1) won its final two game of the Leyden Invitational on Saturday to go 3-0 and win the championship at the Ballpark at Rosemont.

The Pirates defeated Glenbrook North 5-4 and Jacobs 12-5 on Saturday after a 13-3 win over the host Eagles on Friday.

Trailing Glenbrook North 4-2, Palatine scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give freshman Rhiann Dick (1-1) her first varsity win. Dick struck out eight.

Sophomore Grace Huff led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and stole second. After two errors the bases were loaded and Brooke Bauer belted a walk-off triple over the right fielder's head to score Huff, Parrott and sophomore Amanda Stanczuk.

Huff (3-for-3, stolen base, walk 1 run) and Reggie Much (2-for-3, stolen base) led the Pirates' offense.

Huff also had a big game against Jacobs, going 3-for-3 with a double, 3 RBI, stolen base and 2 runs. Other top itter for Palatine were sophomore Amanda Stanczuk (3-for-3, 4 RBI, 1 run), Grace Seiffert (2-for-3, double) and Anna Selleck (1-for-3, double).

Sarah Grossman (4-0) threw a 7-hitter with 7 strikeouts to pick up the win.

For the weekend, Huff was 10-for-12 while Stanczuk was 9-for-11.

Elk Grove 11, South Elgin 10 (8 inn): With one out and runners on second and third, a sacrifice fly by senior Hayley Rathmell (2 RBI) drove home the winning run in the top of the eighth inning to keep the visiting Grens perfect at 6-0.

Sabra Morton (3-0) threw the final 6⅓ innings to earn the win. She struck out 10 batters while Kylie Thomsen struck out two in the first 1⅔ innings.

The Storm led 8-3 going into the fourth inning when Elk Grove scored seven times.

Freshman catcher Katia Pendowski (2-for-5, 4 RBI, 1 run) belted a grand slam in the big inning and Thomsen (2-for-4, 2 runs, RBI) followed with a solo blast, her third homer in two days.

Other multiple hitters for EG were Morton (2-for-5, 2 runs, RBI, double) and Amy Pietruszynski (2-for-5, 1 run). Teammate Haley Itzenthaler drew 3 walks and scored 3 runs.

Prospect sweeps: First-year Prospect coach Krystina Leazer got the first two wins of her career as the Knights recorded 7-4 and 6-4 wins over visiting Maine West.

Junior Colleen Palczysnki belted 2 homers and went 2-for-4 for the Knights (1-2) in Game 1. Alex Kanter (2-for-4) and Jackie Orel (2-for-3) were also multiple hitters for Prospect while teammates Lauren Caldrone and Alyssa Cacini each tripled.

Freshman Claire Doherty got her first of 2 wins with 5 strikeouts while Cacini had 2 strikeouts in relief.

Grace Feldkamp went 2-for-3 for West.

In Game 2, Doherty earned the win over Allison Eby. Caldrone (2-for-3), Cate Meersman (2-for-3) and Madeline Borkowski (3-for-3, double) led the Knights' offense.

Gabbi Demma (2-for-4) led West while Feldkamp doubled.

St. Viator 12, Wheeling 2 (6 inn): Junior Jessica Taylor (2-0) threw a complete game with 5 strikeouts as the Lions improved to 5-2 heading into today's 3 p.m. game with visiting Regina. The top three hitters in Viator's batting order combined for 10 RBI - Cam VanValkenburg (2), Haley Robinson (5) and Grace Kaiser (3).

"However, it was the last three hitters who set the table," said Lions coach John Scotillo. "In their nine at-bats, they scored seven times (freshman Nicole Ardito had 3 hits while senior Cara Haubner had two).

Jenna Breslin and Robinson each doubled for the Lions.

Leading the offense for Wheeling (2-3) were Dakota Medrano (2-for-3), Peyton LaCaeyse (2-for-3) and Becky McAtee (1-for-2). Teammate Veronica Petzold had an RBI.

Rolling Meadows splits: The Mustangs (4-3) dropped the opener in Deerfield 11-1 in six innings and then came back for a 12-3 win.

Senior Lydia Schultz (3-2) struck out two while earning the win in Game 2 and she also went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Other multiple hitters for the Mustangs were Paige Connor (2-for-4, RBI), Elizabeth Elkins (3-for-4, RBI) and Sam Allen (2-for-3, 3 RBI). Teammates Stephanie Thompson and Caroline Slowik each doubled.

Meadows' 3 hits in Game 1 were by Elizabeth Elkins, Amanda Elkins and Slowik.

Conant drops two: Lake Park edged the Cougars 6-5 and 4-3 in Hoffman Estates.

Leading the Cougars in Game 1 was Sara-Kate Prasbig (2-for-3) while Morgan Bihun (double, 2 RBI), Makenna McCarthy (1 run), Carly Rossdeutcher, Maddy Meier (1 run) each had a hit. Lauren Grzelak scored a run and Delaney Szwed had RBI. Pitcher Paige Nallen went all 7 innings for Conant, striking out two.

In Game 2, Bihun went 3-for-4 wit a home run and 2 RBI while other multiple hitter for the Cougars were McCarthy (2-for-3, double, 1 run).

Schaumburg drops two: In a run-filled twin bill, Stevenson edged the Saxons twice 12-11 and 23-22.

Leading Schaumburg's 18-hit attack in Game 1 were Kaiden Jackson (4-for-4, double), Alex Cook (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI), Michelle Birkholz (3-for-4, double, RBI), Cate Poplar (2-for-4, double, RBI), Micaela Encarnacion (2-for-3, 2 homers, 4 RBI) and Brittney Butt (2-for-4, double).

The Saxons (0-4) came back with 20 hits in Game 2 led by Jackson (6-for-7, home run, 4 RBI), Cook (4-for-6, 2 RBI), Birkholz (3-for-5, home run, double, RBI), Cate Poplar (3-for-6, 3 RBI).

Other hits for the Saxons came from Summer Schulz (2 RBI), Encarnacion (double, 3 RBIs), Natalie Napier (double, 2 RBI) and Rachel Kissamis (3 RBI).
