On April 23rd, Five Seasons Burr Ridge Supports The Community House's Autism Fundraiser

Through its support of The Community House's upcoming "Walk the Walk for Autism," Five Seasons Family Sports Club is putting action behind its longstanding commitment to important and impactful causes locally.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 23rd, a contingent of 10 staff members from the Burr Ridge club will be among dozens of teams participating in the walk. It's all in support of Charlie's Gift Center for Autism and Related Disorders, a program at The Community House, 415 W. Eighth St. in Hinsdale.

Rain or shine, teams of walkers depart from The Community House and cover a three-mile course through neighborhoods before winding back to the start.

In addition, Five Seasons is offering chances to win a variety of prizes, including four-month summer memberships, private tennis lessons, tennis equipment, and other items, through raffle tickets sold at the club and at a booth located at The Community House during the event. In total, the prizes are worth nearly $2,000.

Last year, "Walk the Walk" raised $92,000, bringing to more than $500,000 the amount raised in its nine-year history. This year's goal is over $100,000, and Five Seasons is excited to help reach that objective, said Five Seasons Chief Club Officer Barb Potter.

Potter has a longtime friend with two teen-aged sons who are both autistic. That friend's experience came to mind when the opportunity arose to support The Community House, said Potter.

"It has been amazing to see the strength she has had to have over the years in raising them," said Potter. "But she also really relies on aid from groups like The Community House. Without that aid, she'd be lost, so I am very glad to be able to support all of the local families touched by this wonderful organization."

All proceeds will go to Walk the Walk for Autism. Individuals do not need to be present at the event in order to win.

An estimated one out of 68 children are diagnosed with autism spectrum related disorders. Early intervention along with mental health and social skills support is essential to families facing autism and related disorders.

Charlie's Gift provides families with a range of services, including speech, occupational, behavior therapy, counseling services, social skills development, parent advocacy and family support.
