Three injured in crash near Round Lake

One person was critically injured and two others were also hurt when a Ford Contour collided head-on with a semitrailer truck near Round Lake Thursday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. on Route 120 west of Wilson Road, Lake County sheriff's police said in a news release. Police believe a 1998 Ford Contour driven by a 50-year-old Lake Zurich woman was traveling east on Route 120 west of Wilson Road when it drifted into the westbound lanes of traffic and into the path of a 2016 Freightliner truck pulling an empty trailer.

The driver of the Ford and her 16-year-old passenger were cut from the vehicle and taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The driver was critically injured, while her passenger had serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the semi, a 64-year-old man from St. Louis, was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
