Sensory-friendly 'Smurfs' screening among upcoming movie events

'Smurfs' for special needs audiences

The lights go up, the sound goes down, and kids are free to wander around. The Paragon Theater at 53 S. Evergreen Ave., Arlington Heights, will offer a special “sensory-friendly” screening of the new animated comedy “Smurfs: The Lost Village” at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, for children with autism and other special needs. First Oscar Best Picture 'Wings' it Sunday

William Wellman's silent war movie “Wings,” winner of the very first Academy Award for Best Picture, will be accompanied by a live concert by the Prima Vista Quartet at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport St., Chicago.

Composer Baudime Jam completed an original score for “Wings” in 2014. This event has been endorsed by the World War I Centennial Commission as an official project of the World War I commemoration. Go to musicboxtheatre.com.

'Dark Horse' rides into Woodstock Theatre

The Second Monday Film Club presents the British documentary “Dark Horse” at 1 and 7 p.m. on Monday, April 10, at the Woodstock Theatre, 209 Main St., Woodstock.

Matinee and senior tickets cost $6, $8 for evening shows.

'Salesman' makes call at After Hours Society

The After Hours Film Society presents “The Salesman,” winner of the 2016 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, at the Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland Ave., Downers Grove.

Previous Oscar winner Iranian writer-director Asghar Farhadi refused to attend the Academy Awards in February to protest the White House ban on travel from specific Muslim nations. Go to afterhoursfilmsociety.com.

Dann & Raymond do a cinematic double-bill
