Noodles & Company starts closing restaurants

The struggling Noodles & Company chain Wednesday closed 16 restaurants, including six in Illinois.

Local stores that were closed were in Park Ridge, Lake Bluff, Northbrook, Evergreen Park and two in Chicago at Roscoe Square and Touhy and McCormick.

“We made the difficult decision to close selected underperforming restaurants, allowing us to focus exclusively on capitalizing on the many restaurants that are doing very well in the markets where they operate,” said Spokeswoman Danielle Moore.

Broomfield, Colorado‐based Noodles & Company announced in February that it would close 55 underperforming restaurants but did release a list of affected stores at the time.

CBS in Pittsburgh reported earlier in March that Noodles & Company closed a restaurant in the middle of the night and even stripped the store of its equipment and logo before employees reported to work the next day.

At the same time, the fast-casual chain plans to open new restaurants, including one at the Wheeling Town Center project slated to open by summer 2018.
