Ensemble of Ragas with Saraswathi Ranganathan and Palatine Library at Cutting Hall, April 23

Palatine Library invites you to the musical presentation, "Ensemble of Ragas" with Saraswathi Ranganathan at Cutting Hall, in Palatine, on Sunday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. Experience the beautiful sounds of the veena-an ancient, stringed instrument from South India, similar to the lute, known for its relaxing bass tone. Enjoy expressive dance from that region, interlaced throughout the show.

Ranganathan founded Ensemble of Ragas, a music school in Schaumburg, teaching Carnatic Classical Vocal and Veena. She also established the multicultural band Surabhi, which has indo-jazz-flamenco-blues influences. She was the first carnatic veena artist in an off-Broadway play Jungle Book, directed by Mary Zimmerman and supported in part, by Disney Theatrical Productions. She holds a master's degree in Sanskrit and an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago.

This event is one of many offerings in Palatine Library's spring cultural highlight: "Exploring South Asia: India and Beyond." Throughout April and May, join us to celebrate the diverse cultures of India and South Asian countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan through music, dance, cuisine, literature, and art-all of which enrich our country and reflect our local community.

Program is held offsite at Cutting Hall, 150 E Wood Street, in Palatine. All ages welcome. To sign up and for a full schedule of events, for both adults and children, visit www.palatinelibrary.org/SouthAsia or call 847-358-5881. Funded by the Friends of the Palatine Library.
