Baseball: Barrington back home, and still winning

Fresh off winning the championship of the PG Rawlings Select Classic in Emerson, Georgia, the Barrington baseball team hardly missed a beat in their return back home.

The Broncos, who scored 7 runs in the bottom of the third inning, improved to 8-3 by defeating visiting Rockford Boylan 8-1 in Tuesday's nonconference game.

The Spartan tied the game in the top of the third with the only run scored off Barrington's pitching staff in the last four games.

Ryan Loutos went 6 innings to earn the win, striking out eight and allowing 5 hits. Jack Meyer struck out one and did not allow a hit in the seventh.

Leading the Broncos' bats were Jeff Korus (2-for-3, RBI, double) and Clark Elliott (2-for-3, 2 runs).

Teammates Tyler Acosta (RBI), Will Yorton (2 RBI, double) and, Blake Gosswein (RBI, run) each had a hit while Justin Walker had a run and a RBI.

Benet 4, Conant 1: Benet jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning and made the runs strand up in the nonconference game in Lisle.

Conant's offense was led by Logan Smith (2-for-3, double), Tyler Hedmen (2-for-3, double), Tim Fauth (1-for-3) and Quinn Fitzgerald (1-for-3). Hedmen drove in the Cougars' run in the top of the third inning.

Joe Kowalzyk went the first four innings for the Cougars while Joe Pavletich went the final two, giving up 1 hit and striking out two.

Downers Grove South 2, Leyden 1: Downers Grove South tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth and then scored the winning run in the top of the seventh at Leyden.

Suffering the tough loss was Michael Wilms, who gave up only 1 earned run whole striking out seven and allowing 6 hits. Wilms also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run.

Corey Lavallais (double), Nick Herrera (RBI), Nico Sanchez, Matt Ozanic and Josh Cubon each had a hit for Leyden.

Niles West 10, Rolling Meadows 0 (5 inn.): Donnie Janowicz (2-for-2), Justin Thompson (1-for-3, double) and Jack Kane (1-for-2) led the offense for Meadows.

Niles North 5, Wheeling 1: Drew Roberts finished 2-for-4 with a double and drove in Wheeling's only run as the Wildcats (2-3-2) suffered a nonconference setback at home.
