North Aurora brings back July fireworks

North Aurora will celebrate Independence Day with a riverside fireworks show July 3.

The village board approved a contract Monday for $25,000 with Melrose Pyrotechnics Inc.

Trustee Chris Faber voted "no," and Trustee Mark Guethle was absent.

The village is still working out the logistics of the celebration, village administrator Steve Bosco said.

The contract calls for 3- and 4-inch shells, which will be able to clear the tree line, Bosco said.

The explosives will be fired from a spot somewhere near the Fox River Trail, he said. The contract specifies that the firing site be at least 280 feet from spectators.

The 20-minute show will start at 9:30 p.m. If the weather is bad, the show would be done the next day.

North Aurora used to have Fourth of July fireworks, as well as a show during North Aurora Days in August. But starting in 2009, the village decided to drop the Fourth of July show and instead donate money, and sometimes police, to Aurora's show.
