Elgin man in fatal Bartlett crash identified

The man killed in a two-vehicle collision along Route 25 in Bartlett on Saturday, April 1 has been identified as 22-year-old Oscar Soto Gallardo of Elgin.

The Kane County Coroner's Office determined his preliminary cause of death as blunt force trauma due to a motor vehicle versus motor vehicle collision.

Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab. The coroner's office is cooperating with Bartlett police in their ongoing investigation.

According to police, Gallardo was driving a 2002 Hyundai Sonata south on Route 25 between Stearns and West Bartlett roads about 6:15 a.m. Saturday when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2015 Nissan Altima.

The Altima driver was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with nonlife-threatening injuries.
