Salvati earns 2 more years on Batavia council

Scott Salvati took home 60 percent of the vote Tuesday to earn another two years as Batavia's First Ward Alderman.

According to unofficial results, Salvati garnered 456 votes compared to 282 for challenger Carl Dinwiddie, a critic of the city's tax policies.

Salvati said he worked to get out, meet people and contribute to the city. His priorities are to have better communication and accessibility with residents.

"I'm big on communication. I want people to know what's going on. It's a team effort, and they elected us to do their business," Salvati said after his victory. "Mr. Dinwiddie certainly cares about the financial health of the town. But there's more to it than just taxes."

Dinwiddie is known for frequently attending city council meetings, as well as school board meetings, to speak on issues. He also participated in an effort to get a referendum on the April ballot revoking Batavia's home-rule status.

Others seeking council seats were unopposed. Incumbents Michael O'Brien (1st Ward), Marty Callahan (2nd Ward), Eliot Meitzler (3rd Ward), Paula Mueller (4th Ward), Nick Cerone (6th Ward) and Drew McFadden (7th Ward) return. Mark Uher will take the 5th Ward spot, because Alderman Kevin Botterman, who was appointed, did not seek election.

Ellen Posledni was unopposed in her bid for city clerk.
