Aldi launches redesigned store in Chicago

Batavia-based discount grocer Aldi said it will unveil its new redesigned store on Montrose Avenue in Chicago with a grand opening on Thursday, April 13.

The previous store in that Lincoln Square location closed on March 26 and it will open with the new look that will spread to about 1,300 other Aldi stores in 35 states by 2020. The remodeling plan was announced in February and will cost about $1.6 billion.

Remodeled stores will also get a more modern design, open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials, such as recycled materials, energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.
