Baseball: Gardner's Georgia gem lifts Barrington

For the second time in two days, Barrington's baseball team received a complete-game pitching gem.

One day after Brooks Gosswein threw a five-inning 2-hit shutout at Walker High School (AL), senior right-hander Nick Gardner came back with a 3-hit shutout over Northview High School (AL) as the Broncos won 2-0 at the LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, GA.

Gardner's performance included 81 pitches of which 52 were strikes as he struck out one.

Tyler Acosta (1-for-3) and Eric Kozlowski (1 for-3, triple) drove in the runs for Barrington (6-3). which also received hits from Tyler Trojan (double), Clark Elliott, Blake Gosswein, Sean Davis and Justin Williams.

St. Viator wins twice: Winning pitcher Jack Papadia (5⅓ innings, 5 hits, 4 strikeouts) and Peter Beiswenger (1⅔ innings) combined to defeat Littleton High School (CO) in Arizona.

Joe Sarnello led the Lions' offense, going 3-for-5 with a triple and 3 runs while Casey Pulikowski was 2-for-2 with a double, 2 runs and an RBI.

Matt Zawilenski and Ben Rizner (double, 2 runs) also had 2 hits apiece for the Lions while Ryan Stejskal, Mike Wittich (double) each had one.

St. Viator also topped Faith Christian (Arvada, CO) 8-2 as Jack Mahoney notched the win with 4 strikeouts and 3 hits in five innings. Pulikowski went the final two innings, striking out 2 and allowing 2 hits.

Top hitters for the Lions were Cole Kmet (2-for-, 2 RBI, 3 runs, Casey Kmet (double), Hunter Johnson (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Mahoney (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI), Bryce Hellgeth (2-for-3, double, RBI) and Alex Prazuch (double).

Tipton-Rosemark (TN) 9, Hersey 2: Tyler Haffey Alberto Garcia and AJ Ceffalio (double) had the only hits for Hersey in Union City, TN. Ryan Trachsel and Nick Wiley scored the run for the Huskies, who fell behind 6-0 after one inning.

Prairie Ridge 3, Fremd 2: Jordan Albano (1-for-2), and Tommy Wingen (1-for-2) had the RBI for the Vikings. who hosted the game at Heritage Park in Wheeling.

Luke Seidel, Alec Honickel, and Eric Bennes also had hits for Fremd while Tommy Josten and Honickel scored its runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Combining on the pitcher's mound for Fremd were Victor Fujiu (5 innings, 6 hits, 2 strikeouts) and Tom Narey (2 innings, 2 hits, 2 strikeouts).

Eastview (MN) 8, Buffalo Grove 1: TJ Constertina had a double for the Bison in Florida.
