CLC Latino student success program
College of Lake County is piloting a Latino student success program that has shown promise in helping students improve grades and stay in school, officials said. Karen Hlavin, associate vice president for student development, presented a report to the CLC board of trustees at its March 28 meeting. The school measured retention rates and grade-point averages of 214 recent high school graduates who started at CLC in fall 2015 and received extra academic support services. When compared to a similar control group, the Latino student success pilot program participants had a 93.4 percent retention rate compared to 79.5 percent for the control group. GPA for the pilot group were 2.51 compared to 2.31. Officials said Latino students make up 24 percent of CLC's enrollment for credit courses.
