District 214 board a rubber-stamp for superintendent

District 214 board just a rubber-stamp

I want to thank the Daily Herald for their recent story about the candidates for the District 214 school board which served to verify my long-held opinion that the current board is nothing but a rubber stamp for the school superintendent.

Candidate Hineman admitted as much when he confirmed to the Daily Herald that the current board gives the superintendent "pretty free rein."

Voters in District 214 need to remember that it is this superintendent and school board that over the years amassed financial reserves four and five times higher than those of nearby school districts, and far exceeding that which is recommended under accepted accounting principles.

These are the individuals, who, when challenged about the amount of reserves being held, concocted numerous capital projects to deplete those funds instead of rebating some of it back to the taxpayers or reducing future tax levies.

And, it is this superintendent and board that annually levies the maximum it can under current Illinois law providing for the maximum collection of taxes from each and every property owner.

When is enough, enough? These are just a few of the things I'll be thinking about when I enter the voting booth.
