Art studio, Prairie center team for new exhibit

After another amazing response last year, Arlington Heights' Monart Drawing Studio and the Prairie Center for the Arts are pleased to present an all-new exhibition for 2017.

Showcasing the artistry of students ages 4 and older, this year will be the biggest display ever with more than 100 works being presented beginning Sunday, April 2, and running through Monday, May 15.

Visitors will discover a range of subjects created with a variety of different media, including marker, graphite, oil pastel, color pencil, chalk pastel, watercolor and gouache.

Located at 201 Schaumburg Court, (847) 895-3600, on the scenic grounds of the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts has established itself as the cultural centerpiece of the Northwest suburbs.

Over the years The Prairie Center has hosted hundreds of exhibitions and performances with a lineup of some of the most renowned entertainers in the world.

However, maybe even more importantly, the Prairie Center is dedicated to the ongoing cultural enrichment of hundreds of students from the surrounding area. Commenting on the installation of this latest art exhibition, Betsy Armistead, director of Cultural Services for the Village of Schaumburg, offers that, "the Prairie Center appreciates what Ellen Sharpe and her Monart program have meant to the young people in Arlington Heights and the neighboring communities.

"Her special techniques and approach to teaching not only empowers children, but has also achieved some remarkable results. In fact, when visitors come and see this amazing exhibition from the hearts and hands of these youngsters, truly, the works speak for themselves and really are visions to behold."

In her 22nd year, Ellen Sharpe has been the only licensed Monart instructor in the state of Illinois, and regarding this new art exhibition, she speaks with unwavering passion and dedication.

"Each year, I have been able to stage this very special art show so that everyone can enjoy the incredible talent of an astounding group of young students. This year I feel especially fortunate to be able to team up again with Betsy at her fantastic facility, because we share such a common belief that our children deserve to be celebrated for each and every achievement," Sharpe said.

The public is welcome to attend a special gala opening reception from 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 2.

The studio offers a full calendar of classes from beginners just learning to draw to those who desire getting back in touch with their artistic side. In addition, summer and winter camps are held annually, along with birthday parties and other special group sessions available.
