Tom's Farm Market owner to talk about living and farming in Huntley

The Huntley Historical Society will welcome Tom Halat of Tom's Farm Market in Huntley as the featured speaker at their "Strawberries in Huntley" oral history event at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, in the multipurpose room at the Cosman Center, 12015 Mill St. in Huntley.

His interviewer will be Jake Marino, historian and collector of Huntley's artifacts.

Although Tom did not grow up on a farm, he became interested in farming at the age of 10 when he was in 4-H. He started his first farm stand in Bartlett when he was in high school which is still in operation. In 1976, Tom and his family purchased land along Algonquin Road and made Huntley their home. So what do the Beatles and farming in Huntley have in common? The song "Strawberry Fields Forever" reflects Huntley as for over 100 years strawberries have been a plentiful product of Huntley soil.

Tom's Farm Market has become a popular and valuable resource for those homegrown strawberries along with sweet corn, various vegetables, and unique items for home gardens and gifts.

Make sure to arrive before 6:30 p.m. as this will be a popular program. It is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. For information, call (224) 654-2070. Visit huntleyhistoricalsociety.org or follow the historical society on Facebook.
