College of Lake County students get personal at Pop-up Museum

A Native American talking stick and Pink Floyd's "The Wall" CD were among the items 11 archaeology students brought to create a temporary museum at College of Lake County in Grayslake.

The theme of Thursday's Pop-up Museum was "The Story of Your Life," and the students used personal items to talk about themselves to other students, teachers and the public as they stopped at the display.

"This is part of two classes that we have done with these students learning about the work of museums and interpretation and interpreting objects to the public," said Seleena Kuester, the Lake County Forest Preserve District's education manager. "The students have picked really interesting objects.

The temporary exhibit is part of a continuing series by the forest district for residents and students to share personal objects and stories with the public.

The CLC students picked an eclectic variety of personal items for Thursday's exhibition, including a ceramic rabbit, a pipe and a sketch book with original drawings.

"I brought my rabbit. It shows that I really have a love for animals," Bridgette Hernandez of Wadsworth said as she described her ceramic rabbit named Totoro. "We were supposed to bring something that tells us about ourselves."

The event was sponsored by the Lake County Discovery Museum and the CLC Anthropology Department.
