Elect 'outsider' Waryas to Hoffman board

I am writing in support of Nicholas F. Waryas, running as an "outsider" for Hoffman Estates trustee - not part of the slate put in place and funded by the mayor, content with the status quo and stagnating growth.

Examples of the bewilderment in Hoffman Estates include Mayor McLeod, supported by slate member Mills, leading the effort to block reasonable development in the vacant parcel north of I-90. Now Hoffman Estates is bumbling along with creation of a TIF district, giving the developer a $21 million dollar tax break subsidizing residential building, including luxury apartments and six-figure single family homes.

Waryas believes the root of these failures are tired policies by long-term elected officials (like Mills - 25 years) whose campaigns are funded by McLeod with money taken from the village attorney, companies and organizations the village regulates or does business with.

Waryas is paying for his campaign out of his own pocket. He will sponsor ordinances to:

• Eliminate the unnecessary stormwater tax (voted for by Mills and Gaeta).

• Modify zoning rules for developing vacant land.

• Specify firm criteria for awarding no waver/"no bid" contracts.

• Prohibit elected officials, and candidates, from accepting campaign contributions from any person, corporation or organization the village does business with and/or regulates.

• Implement term limits: Trustees and the mayor limited to two consecutive four-year terms; the village clerk would be allowed three consecutive four-year terms.

Hoffman Estates can do better with Waryas as trustee. The village is stationary because of long-serving trustees, running on a slate approved and funded by McLeod, content with the status quo.

Please cast your vote for Nicholas F. Waryas.
