Engage D15 Slate is the change we need

It's time for a change on the District 15 board. The Engage D15 Slate of Annerino, Szczupaj, Wang, Smolka and Kain offers voters the change we've needed for a long time. These candidates are interested in hearing and acting on the concerns and needs of our community.

I believe Daily Herald missed the mark with their endorsements. Why should we consider voting for any incumbent board members who approved a 10-year teacher contract without negotiations or a $130 million referendum that was rushed through without engaging the community and raised more questions than answers to our schools' needs?

I appreciate anyone who volunteers their time to our community but your recommendation for Mr. Border due to his time on the FPC 2.0 committee that made recommendations for the $130 million referendum misses the mark.

Why not mention Lisa Szczupaj who successfully opposed the teacher's union proposed Wednesday late start that would have affected thousands of taxpaying working parents' routines of getting their children to school and getting to work on time? Or how about Barbara Kain, who during the $130 million referendum campaign made well-thought-out presentations to review concerns and questions to this expensive plan so voters could make an informed choice?

The DH took the time to mention that the goals of Engage 15 are supported by a GOP organization but failed to mention these slate members are Republicans, Democrats and an Independent. The DH also failed to investigate and report who supports (and has supported) the incumbents and other candidates.

All voters need to pay close attention to this race whether they have children in the district or not - ask an expert how much a school's rating effects a child's education or value of a home.
