Keep Schaumburg Township board in good hands

Four seats on the Schaumburg Township board of trustees will be filled on April 4th. Many know relatively little about township government. Townships offer a broad range of services and assistance to citizens that reside within them; and utilize significant paid staff, and facilities and equipment do so. These resources are paid for by our local tax dollars.

As taxpayers, we want to know that these resources are being used wisely and effectively. That goal is attainable when township trustees know how township government works; and know how to manage operations so that it works well. Currently, Schaumburg Township is well-served by four experienced trustees - Diane Dunham, Robert Vinnedge, Jeff Mytych and Nimish Jani - leaders who have consistently managed well.

Further, they have done this via balanced budgets and without increasing the tax levy for years.

The four incumbents are being challenged by four individuals who are not known to have ever been involved in township government in any discernible fashion. They have neither been volunteers nor members of any committees or boards within the township government structure. I am informed that they have not been present at meetings of the Township board of trustees, where board activities and practices are revealed, until their recent declaration as candidates for trustee positions.

Despite the fact that the challengers are willfully ignorant of township government operations; and have no known experience relevant to the trustee role, they assert that they will shake things up and really improve management of the township. Nonsense! Improvement is always possible, but not with "know-nothings" in charge.

There is no crisis in Schaumburg's township government. I recommend keeping in place the team that has given us good service, encouraged volunteerism, balanced budgets, and avoided tax hikes. That's Dunham, Vinnedge, Mytych and Jani.
