Softball: Grant wins twice in Tennessee
Grant's softball team opened its season with a pair of wins Wednesday in Tennessee.
The Bulldogs beat Polk County 6-1 in their first game, as Megan Chapman did not give up an earned run. Coach Chris Van Alstine said his team's defense was solid, while Becca Wold drove in 2 runs. Megan Mitchell also had 2 RBI.
Grant then got another "huge defensive game," Van Alstine said, as the Bulldogs beat Tennessee High 6-2. Erin Bengston had 3 hits, including a triple. Calista Warmowski and Mitchell homered.
"All around great team day," Van Alstine said, "and great start to the season."
Bloomer (Wis.) 5, Grayslake North 2: Grayslake North dropped to 3-2 on the season.
Jenna Pozezinski finished 3-for-4 with an RBI while fellow senior Carissa Popp ended 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Faith Standerski and Katie Moats both finished with 2 hits each. Kylie Conrad contributed a double. Evan Garret (7 IP, 6 hits, 3 strikeouts) took the loss for the Knights.
Willoughby South (Ohio)7, Grayslake Central 5: Pitcher Reagen Radke took the loss for the Rams.
