Main Street rail crossing closed until next Friday in downtown Wheaton

Commuters in downtown Wheaton may need to alter their travel between now and April 7 because Main Street will be closed in the area surrounding the rail crossing.

City spokeswoman Arin Thrower said Union Pacific Railroad workers are performing regularly scheduled maintenance on the Metra Union Pacific West Line at the crossing.

Main Street will be closed from Front Street to Liberty Drive through 5 p.m. April 7. A map of the crossing and a detour are available on the city's website.

Northbound traffic will be detoured east on Liberty Drive, north on Cross Street, west on Wesley Street and then continue north on Main Street.

Southbound traffic will be detoured east on Front Street, south on Cross Street, west on Liberty Drive and then continue south on Main Street.

Motorists who use the Main Street crossing in downtown Wheaton will have to take a different route while construction continues at the site through April 7. Mark Black/mblack@dailyherald.com
