The Salvation Army Elgin Corps partners with 15th annual Comcast Cares Day

The Salvation Army Elgin Corps, one of the largest direct providers of basic human needs in northern Kane County, is partnering with Comcast for the 15th annual Comcast Cares Day.

Comcast Cares Day began in 2001 with 6,100 volunteers helping to improve about 100 community sites.

Last year, a record-breaking 100,000-plus volunteers - including employees, along with their families and friends and our nonprofit partners - turned out to beautify neighborhoods, spruce up schools, plant trees, stock food banks, and much more, throughout 39 states and the District of Columbia, and in 21 other countries.

Comcast Cares Day, which is the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer event, is one of our proudest company traditions.

On Saturday, April 22, from 8 a.m. to noon, Comcast employees will join Salvation Army volunteers at 316 Douglas Ave. in Elgin to clean, paint and beautify The Salvation Army building and the Molly D. Burns Memorial Park.

Comcast provides a free T-shirt to every volunteer and for every Salvation Army volunteer solicited Comcast donates a cash gift back to the organization. Last year, more than 100 Salvation Army volunteers were recruited and Comcast donated $2,000 to The Salvation Army to be used for programs and services to those in need in the Elgin community.

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers, particularly adult groups and supervised children, to support the Comcast Cares Day event, including an experienced painting supervisor for an inside painting project. Solicitation of items for the beatification project is needed prior to the day of the event. These items include:

• Flowers - sun and shade area annuals and perennials;

• Outdoor park bench;

• Heavy-duty garbage cans with lids;

• Swing set for the play park;

• Lawn mower;

• Preen, a garden weed preventer.
