Softball: Serio slugs Wauconda past Lemont
Kayla Serio went 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, and Wauconda's softball team held off host Lemont 11-9 Tuesday for its first win of the season.
Wauconda (1-2) got two hits apiece from Alex Steffens and Sarah Ricci (3 RBI). Mallory Carver doubled and drove in 3 runs.
Grayslake Central 11, Iola-Scandinavia (Wis.) 0: In Orlando, Fla., Reagen Radke pitched a five-inning, two-hit shutout and aided her cause with a triple and an RBI for the Rams.
Elisha Koshy hit a solo homer and singled for Grayslake Central. Koshy and Zoey Styczen (2 RBI) both finished 2-for-3. Radke struck out 10 and walked two.
Grayslake North 5, Iola-Scandinavia (Wis.) 1: In Orlando, Fla., sophomore Ashton Moore earned her first varsity win. She pitched all 7 innings, striking out eight and allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks.
Freshman Faith Standerski (2-for-4, stolen base) and sophomore Grace Brown (1-for-3, double) each had 2 RBI. Seniors Katie Moats and Jenna Pozezinski contributed a triple and double, respectively, for the Knights (3-1).
Eastern Eagles 14, Lake Zurich 10: The Bears hit 4 home runs, including a pair by Amanda Guercio, but still lost to their Louisville opponent.
Jessica Puccinelli and Taylor Zelich also homered for Lake Zurich (3-4). Guercio (3 RBI) finished 3-for-3, wile the Bears also got 2-hit games from Megan Croke (double), Puccinelli (2 RBI), Stephanie Keefe (2 RBI) and Zelich (3 RBI).
