Washington School students enjoy Reading Night

Close to 140 children attended Washington School's Family Reading Night recently to listen to village officials and teachers read to them from their favorite books.

Children in the kindergarten to second grade Mundelein building listened to stories like "The Cookie Fiasco" and "The Seven Silly Eaters," and stories read to them in Spanish like "El Bebé Llorón."

"Children love attending the evening activity because they get to hear adults share their love of reading," Principal Jim Kallieris said. "It's important to see all sorts of different people read, including their heroes like policemen and firemen. When kids see that adults have a love for reading, it motivates them to read more."

As the evening came to a close, each child was given a book to take home and share with others. Washington educators emphasized to parents to read to their children daily.
