Baseball: Burlington Central on 4-game streak

David Lauber allowed 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 innings Monday as the Burlington Central baseball team won for the fourth time on its spring trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., defeating Westerville Central (OH) 3-2.

The Rockets (6-0) won twice last Saturday and once on Sunday.

In Monday's win, Nick Matijevic had a triple and 2 RBI and Brandon VanBuren added an RBI as Central scored all of its runs in the sixth inning.

St. Charles North 12, Painesville (OH) 0: Zach Mettetal (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI) and Sean Krueger (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI) led SCN's 14-hit attack in this win at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. Also contributing for the North Stars were Tyler Mettetal (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Sam Faith (2 RBI), Tommy Nelsen (2B, RBI), Brenden Norberg (2B), Tim Hasto (2 RBI) and Anthony Delisi (RBI). Nick Skurka picked up the win on the mound, going 3 innings while allowing 3 hits.

Butler (OH) 3, St. Charles North 0: The North Stars (3-1) got just 4 hits in losing this game in Myrtle Beach. Steve Hamer was the losing pitcher.

Waubonsie Valley 6, St. Charles East 4: Joe Sciarrino had a double and an RBI while John Dellostritto and Kyle Tiltges added 2 hits each for SCE (2-1) in this nonconference loss. Drew Conn took the loss on the mound for the Saints.

Jacobs 4, Homewood-Flossmoor 3: The Golden Eagles (3-0) scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to win this game at Rent One Ballpark in downstate Marion. Mike Addante (2 hits), Ryan McGorian (2B, RBI), Jacob Sonnefeldt (2B, RBI) and Adam Kale (RBI) led the Jacobs offense. Spencer Foulks picked up the pitching win in relief.

Cary-Grove 12, Grant 0: Quinn Priester (4 IP, 9 Ks, 2BBs) and Tommy Neilsen (1 IP, 2 Ks) combined on a no-hitter for the Trojans (4-0) at Rent One Ballpark. Leading the Cary-Grove offense were Ryan Ignoffo (2 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), Priester (2 RBI), Ben Levicki (2 hits, 3B, RBI), Ben Baruth (RBI) and Zach Willis (2 hits, HR, 2 RBI).

Oswego 12, West Aurora 5: Connor Palmby and Josh Adam had 2 hits each for West Aurora (0-4) while JJ Rivera added a double in this nonconference loss.

Harvest Christian 9, Streamwood 4: Dominik Olech had 3 hits with a double and 4 RBI to lead Harvest to a nonconference win. Also contributing for the Lions were Brock Wilken (2 hits), Drew Lewis (RBI), Joey Pepper (RBI) and Jack Nohava (RBI). Pepper picked up the win on the mound, going 5 innings and allowing 5 hits and no earned runs with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk. Jesse Rico had 2 hits with a double and Michael Pawilkowski drove in 2 runs for Streamwood (3-1).

Hampshire 11, Belvidere 1: Kyle Homa had 2 hits and an RBI for Hampshire, which took advantage of 6 Belvidere errors in winning this nonconference game. Kevin Michaelsen, Carter Lawler and Matt Jachec drove in runs for the Whip-Purs (3-1-1). Christian Puente went 5 innings and allowed 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk for the win.

Hononegah 5, Huntley 4: Joe Boland and Adam Smylie each had 2 hits for Huntley and Brad Model added a double for the Red Raiders (3-1) in this nonconference game. Logan DeWulf took the loss on the mound.
