'Million Dollar Quartet,' 'Elf' lead Paramount's upcoming season

"Million Dollar Quartet," the rock 'n' roll jukebox musical that kept toes tapping in Chicago for eight years, returns in September courtesy of Paramount Theatre in Aurora.

The musical leads off Paramount's seventh season, which begins Sept. 13. The musical is narrated by Sun Records founder Sam Phillips and loosely inspired by a 1956 jam session between Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley in Memphis.

That's followed by "Elf: The Musical" on Nov. 22. It's an adaptation of the 2003 film, which starred Will Ferrell as a man raised as one of Santa's elves who leaves the North Pole for New York City to seek his biological father.

Next up is a revival of the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical "Cabaret," which begins previews Feb. 7, 2018. Set in Berlin during the waning days of the Weimar Republic and the rise of the Nazi Party, it's about the love affair between an aspiring writer and a cabaret singer.

The season concludes with the April 25 Chicago-area premiere of "Once," the stage adaptation of John Carney's 2007 film musical about the relationship between a Dublin street singer/songwriter and a Czech pianist.
