I was hearing echoes of "Let them eat cake" coming across the centuries when I learned the particulars of the Trump budget proposal.
Our elected aristocracy is firmly inside it's own bubble, so it remains to be seen how far the Republican Congress will go to support their very own Louis XVI.
Perhaps it is time to pull the metaphorical guillotine out of storage and set it up on the Mall in Washington, D.C.
November 2018 seems like such a long way off.
