Field Museum Lecture Series 2017 Begins at Brushwood Center

RIVERWOODS, IL - A partnership with The Field Museum of Natural History's Keller Science Action Center (KSAC), Field Museum Lecture Series at Brushwood Center is an inspiring set of lectures about KSAC work connecting people to nature in the Chicago Region and around the world. KSAC's Youth Conservation Action Manager, Alison Paul, kicked off Brushwood Center's 2017 Field Museum Lecture Series with a focus on connecting youth to nature in the Chicago region and Lake County.

Alison spoke on the body of literature and research that details why interacting with nature is so crucial to human growth and development. From healthy coping skills, problem solving, concentration, physical health, and even stronger relationships, Alison explored the social and scientific studies on how a child's time in nature encourages positive growth.

The discussion synthesized the community resources available to Chicago region and Lake County residents looking to get youth more involved with nature. Representatives from local and regional organizations, including Lake County Forest Preserve District, Waukegan Public Library, Cool Learning Experience, and Illinois Young Birders, among others, attended the event and their presence contributed to a strong community discussion with a great exchange of information and ideas.Brushwood Center looks forward to continuing this partnership with The Keller Science Action Center and hosting the rest of the 2017 Field Museum Lecture Series speakers.
