Open house introduces teens to Elmhurst's Police Explorer program

The Elmhurst Police Department will have an open house for those ages 14 to 21 to learn about its youth Police Explorer program at 7 p.m. Monday, April 24, at the police station, 125 E. First St.

Police Explorers is a youth-based program similar to Scouting, in which members learn about careers in law enforcement and criminal justice. The program provides excellent opportunities for young adults to gain knowledge about all aspects of law enforcement and to be able to work closely with their local law enforcement agency.

Members participate in events such as police ride-alongs, competitions, community service, character development and physical fitness. Elmhurst Police Explorers emphasizes youth leadership and responsibility.
