Girls soccer: Kubin, LZ blank Grant

Lake Zurich 7, Grant 0: Rebecca Kubin scored 3 goals and had an assist to lead Lake Zurich to a big shutout victory over Grant.

Kristin Brousseau added 2 goals and an assist for the Bears, who move to 2-2.

Lake Zurich goalkeepers Madison Hart and Claire Jones combined for 3 saves.

Warren 7, Highland Park 0: Kaitlyn Chomko and Alliyah Parker scored 2 goals each as Warren got the shutout win.

Goalkeeper Skylar Reilly had 4 saves for the Blue Devils, who move to 2-0 on the season.

Mundelein 4, Lakes 1: Leah Goldman had 2 goals to lead Mundelein to the win.

Myah Strokosch and Emily Hay each scored a goal and had an assist.

Lakes scored its only goal on a direct kick from 25 yards out with 10 minutes left.

Goalkeeper Molly Bakrins had 8 saves for Lakes, which is now 1-2.

"It was a well-played game by both teams, scoreless first half but Mundelein broke the tie 10 min into the half," Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said. "My team played well and though Mundelein scored 4, I thought we had our chances but we just didn't make the best of our opportunities to score."

Vernon Hills 1, Grayslake Central 0: Vernon Hills moved to 1-1 overall in shutting out Grayslake Central.

The winning goal was scored by Frances Ferolo and assisted by Marley Reback.

Cassie Pappano recorded the shutout for the Cougars with 6 saves in net.

"It was nice to come out today and respond the way we did after our loss (Wednesday) to Prairie Ridge," Vernon Hills coach Michael McCaulou said. "I felt for the most part our girls work rate was at a high level all game. The game was pretty wide open at times today, which created some good scoring opportunities. I think we were just fortunate today to be the team that found the back of the net on one of our chances.

"We still have many things to work on, but the season is early and those things will progress as they should with this group of kids. We did some very good things today and that's what we will build on."

Deerfield 1, Antioch 0: The game was halted with 10:10 left in the first half due to lightning. It will be finished at a later date.

Carmel 0, Hersey 0: Carmel and Hersey battled to a scoreless tie in nonconference action.
