Oakton vice president given national award
Oakton Community College Vice President for Student Affairs Karl Brooks was given a national award for his efforts to improve student life.
Brooks received the community college professional award from NASPA, a nationwide organization for the student affairs profession.
Under Brooks, the college constructed a new student center to promote student engagement and involvement last year. He also oversaw a change in the college's payment plan structure that resulted in a reduction in student schedule cancellations due to nonpayment.
"To be recognized by higher education professionals is recognition of the outstanding support and collaboration from leaders, mentors and colleagues that have nurtured my development over the years," Brooks said in a news release.
