Girls soccer: Miller, Sinnott pace Wauconda's big shutout win

Erica Miller and Megan Sinnott each scored 3 goals, Kayla Wisniewski had 2 goals and 2 assists, and Wauconda's girls soccer team blanked visiting McHenry 8-0 in a nonconference match Wednesday.

Morgan Lung added a pair of assists for the Bulldogs (2-0). Abigail McHugh and Annalyse Maze also had assists. Jillian Rejczyk made 2 saves in earning the shutout.

"We had a good overall attacking effort today," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "Things were clicking on all levels, and we finished our chances. Everyone on the roster put in a great effort."

Carmel 2, Palatine 0: Angie Salvi and Skyler Thomas scored second-half goals for the host Corsairs.

Riley Harmon assisted on both goals, while Sophia Sarkis (5 saves) and Rachel Bierman (1 save) split time in goal for the shutout.

Prairie Ridge 5, Vernon Hills 1: Makena Silber scored 3 goals for the Wolves in the nonconference match.

Katie Burrow had the lone goal, assisted by Marley Reback, for the Cougars in their season opener.

"I thought we played a very good second half tonight," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "If we can clean up some of our decision-making and technical mistakes in the defensive third, we will be a strong team. To be honest, I'm not that concerned as it was our first game and PR was a strong team. The girls we have are committed to getting better each day, and this game will only make us stronger down the road."

New Trier 3, Libertyville 0: The Wildcats were shut out in the nonconference match to fall to 1-1 on the season.

"Competitive game," first-year Libertyville coach Kevin Thunholm said. "They finished. We did not. We were undermanned tonight but missed our own opportunities, which in time we will finish. Very proud of my girls."
