Lake County begins hydrant flushing April 3

Lake County Public Works will conduct its semiannual water hydrant flushing program beginning Monday, April 3, depending on weather conditions, officials announced Wednesday.

Flushing will take place daily on weekdays, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and will continue until all water mains throughout the system have been flushed.

After flushing there may be a slight discoloration of the water. Residents are urged not to do laundry during periods of flushing in their area to avoid staining, which may occur due to the disturbance in the water main. This is not harmful and will dissipate after a short time, officials say. It is recommended to run cold water for several minutes to clear the pipes.

The anticipated completion date is April 28. Signs will be posted in each area before the start of hydrant flushing.
