District 212 students display work at Illinois High School Art Exhibition

Eleven District 212 art students displayed their artwork at the Illinois High School Art Exhibition held at the Zhou B Art Gallery and the Bridgeport Art Center, both in Chicago. The exhibit ran from February 11 through March 5 and included an artists' reception and awards ceremony at both locations on Feb. 26. This is the third consecutive year that East and West Leyden art students have been invited to exhibit their work.

Leyden was one of 100 Illinois high schools that participated in the exhibit that consists of seven categories including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, graphic design, and time arts (video and animation).

Awards are given by art colleges and universities located throughout the United States. This year Jose Aguilar, an East Leyden senior and AP Studio Art student earned a merit scholarship from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Aguilar's ink drawing,

Untitled, is a composite of a character he created.

In addition to Aguilar, the following students exhibited their work at this prestigious art show: Daria Cichon, Yvette Dorado, Jorge Gutierrez, Martyna Kot, Eduard Poienar, Jennifer Saenz, Lynn Nyugen, Bart Saminski, Jose Valles, and Giana Sansone.
