Baseball: Jacobs, Dundee-Crown each win

Jacobs' baseball team pounded out 6 doubles and got a home run from Ryan McGorian Tuesday to win its season opener, 9-4 over Zion-Benton.

Mike Addante had 2 doubles and an RBI for the Golden Eagles while Matt Camp (RBI), Braeden Wegner (2 RBI), McGorian (4 RBI) and Liam Oreskovich (2 hits, RBI) also doubled.

Brad Demkovich picked up the win on the mound, going 3 innings and allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts.

Dundee-Crown 5, Schaumburg 3: Ryan Denz had 2 hits and an RBI and Erik Hedmark drove in 2 runs to lead Dundee-Crown (2-0) to this nonconference win. Brett Buske started and went 4 innings for the win on the mound. Scott Wojcik picked up the save.

Woodstock North 6, Larkin 4: Cy Kerber and Jeff Althamer (RBI) had 2 hits each and Michael Rodriguez added a triple and 3 RBI for Larkin (1-1) in this nonconference loss. David Bello suffered the pitching loss for the Royals.

CL South 15, Elgin 1: Ryan Parquette (3 hits, 4 RBI) and Brian Fuentes (2B, RBI) led the Crystal Lake South offense to this nonconference win. Griffin Bright (2 RBI), Riley Tannhauser (RBI), Nick Wolski (RBI), Blake Kuffel (RBI), Noah Tyrell (RBI) and Brent Chubb (2 RBI) also contributed for the Gators (3-0). Eddie Cubit allowed 1 hit with 4 strikeouts in 3 innings to earn the win.

Bartlett 16, Rolling Meadows 1: Martin Moreno had 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI while Frank Novello doubled and drove in 4 runs as Bartlett (1-1) rolled to a nonconference win. Also contributing for the Hawks were Eric Johansen (3 hits, 2 RBI), Jake Flint (RBI), Ryan Temesvary (RBI), Joey Allen (2 hits, RBI) and Ben Fisher (2 hits). Max Smithberg was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 5 innings.

Huntley 14, Belvidere North 3: Jeff Heinrich (2 hits, RBI), Brad Model (2 hits, 2 RBI), Noah Konie (2 hits, RBI), Eric Maurer (2 hits) and Joe Rizzo (2B) led the Huntley offense in the Red Raiders' season-opening win. Nick Laxner went 4 innings allowing 6 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.

Aurora Christian 10, Plano 5: Robert Lewis and Jake Kuntzendorf (RBI) each had doubles and winning pitcher Eric Hernandez drove in 2 runs as the Eagles won their season opener. MJ Stavola, Jacob Brothers and Clark Turek each drove in runs for AC as well. Hernandez went 4 innings in relief, allowing 2 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Burlington Central 9, Sycamore 7: Ryan Knowlton had 2 hits with a home run and 2 RBI as the Rockets opened their season with a nonconference win. Also contributing to the BC offense were David Lauber (RBI), Clay Milas (2B), Matt Termini (2B. 2 RBI) and Brandon Van Buren (2B). Dylan Berry was the winning pitcher in relief.

Lisle 9, St. Edward 1: Jack Olson had 2 hits and Matthew Schimbke an RBI for St. Edward (0-2) in this nonconference game. Mike Lopez was the losing pitcher.

Plainfield Central 7, West Aurora 5: Connor Palmby had a double and 3 RBI for West Aurora (0-1) in this nonconference loss. JJ Rivera (RBI) and Alex Diaz added 2 hits each for the Blackhawks. Jacob Gray was the losing pitcher.

Hampshire 9, DeKalb 7: Jacob Kostecki drove in 3 runs while Matthew Wians added a double for Hampshire (1-0) in nonconference action. Matt Jachec (2 hits), Kyle Homa, Kevin Michaelsen and Trevor Laffin each had RBI for the Whip-Purs. Alex Mahaz was the winning pitcher.
