Antioch police dog getting protective vest through donation

Antioch Police Department K-9 Hank soon will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest through a charitable donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., the police department announced Tuesday.

Hank's vest is sponsored by an anonymous donor and will be embroidered with the sentiment, "In memory of Fanchon." Delivery is expected within 8-10 weeks, police said.

Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided more than 2,400 protective vests, in all 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of over $1.9 million.

Hank, a male German Shepherd, was born in the Czech Republic in April 2015 and is trained in narcotics detection, obedience, tracking of human scent, locating lost articles, clean currency proofing, aggression control and handler protection. He joined the department in June 2016, and is partnered with Officer Chad McCameron.
