Hoover second-graders raise money for Malala Fund
When Hannah Kelly's second grade class at Hoover Math and Science Academy read books about Malala Yousafzai and watched some of her speeches, they were so inspired by her work to help girls get an education that they decided to raise money for the Malala Fund.
"We saw how brave and admirable she is, and we decided we wanted to help out," Kelly said.
The class thought about different ways they could help. They did research, then made a checklist of all of the steps they would need to complete in order to launch their fundraiser. They created a page on the Malala Fund website so people could donate, and also made donation envelopes for every Hoover classroom. Two of Kelly's students presented on the morning announcements about who Malala is and why they would be donating to her fund.
The class's goal was to raise $800 for the Malala Fund, and they ended up raising $826!
