Carmel 14, Cary-Grove 9: Winning pitcher Sydney Schuda went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, and Jordan Swiatkowski was 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer and 3 RBI for the Corsairs in their season opener.
Schuda pitched 4⅓ innings, allowing 2 earned runs, 3 hits and 3 walks. Bella Anichini was 2-for-3 with a 3-run home run for Carmel, and Jennifer Giesey finished 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored.
Carmel, which had 15 hits, led 9-0 in the fifth inning.
Lake Zurich 6, Glenbrook North 1: The visiting Bears out-hit the Spartans 11-6 to pick up a nonconference win at Barrington.
Marengo 4, Lakes 2: The Eagles out-hit their hosts 10-9 but came up short on runs in nonconference play.
Junior shortstop Rachel Becker had a pair of doubles for Lakes.
