Man shot, critically injured in front of Chicago courthouse

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say a 22-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot six times as he walked up the steps of the county courthouse on the city's West Side.

Police say the shooting happened at about 9:30 a.m. Monday outside the Leighton Criminal Courthouse when someone pulled up in a white van and opened fire. Authorities say the man was shot six times in the groin area and rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Two off-duty officers who witnessed the shooting chased the alleged gunman and arrested him. Police say a gun was recovered. A spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Department, which provides security at the courthouse, says it is unclear why the man was shot.
